New Eclipse Website Launched: The Wyoming Office of Tourism unveiled the redesigned eclipse webpage for the upcoming 2017 total solar eclipse. The new page makes it easier for visitors to plan where to view the eclipse on August 21, 2017.
Close Encounters at Devils Tower: This fall is the 40th anniversary of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, a Steven Spielberg movie that featured Devils Tower National Monument. A new event this year, the Devils Tower UFO Rendezvous will be held during the anniversary.
100 Years of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West: 2017 marks three important anniversaries for Cody, Wyoming: the 120th anniversary of the town, the 100th anniversary of the death of Colonel William “Buffalo Bill” Cody and the 100th anniversary of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West.
150 Years of Cheyenne: July 2017 marks the 150th anniversary of the Union Pacific Railroad arriving in Cheyenne and with its arrival, the founding of the "Magic City of the Plains." Located in downtown, the Union Pacific Depot is a prominent landmark that’s home to a museum that celebrates the spirit and teamwork of the men and women who built the railroad.
Dine Local in Jackson: Vertical Harvest, a 13,500-square-foot hydroponic greenhouse recently opened in the heart of Jackson. Using 1/10 of an acre, this greenhouse will grow an annual amount of produce equivalent to 5 acres of traditional agriculture. Local Jackson Hole restaurants—including Amangani, Snake River Brewery, Café Genevieve and Grand Teton Lodge—are utilizing produce from this vertical garden in their culinary offerings.
Taste Italy in Wyoming: Racca’s Pizzeria Napoletana in Casper is a full-service award-winning Neapolitan pizza restaurant that serves the authentic tastes of Italy in the heart of the Cowboy State.
Sheridan Expands Wine + Food Scene: Weston Wineries, a Sheridan staple, recently added a tasting room to their Main Street location. Plus, Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse is the newest culinary addition to Sheridan, with fresh sushi and sashimi, hibachi and tempura dishes.

Four-Star Accolades in Jackson: Two of Jackson Hole’s premiere properties—The Wort Hotel and Hotel Jackson—have earned four-star recognition by Forbes Travel Guide. This is the fourth year that The Wort Hotel, a Jackson Hole icon since 1941, has been on this prestigious list, while this is the first year on the list for Hotel Jackson—the town’s newest boutique hotel which opened in 2015.
See Wild Mustangs: The third of its kind in the United States and the only one located on an Indian reservation, the new Wind River Wild Horse Sanctuary offers visitors an opportunity to see more than 100 wild mustangs up-close on a private tour. The sanctuary’s visitor center has an interpretive display that showcases the importance of horses in the culture and tradition of Wyoming’s First Nations, as well as a history of wild horses in North America.
Casper Welcomes New Venue: David Street Station, a new outdoor venue, is set to open in downtown Casper in July 2017. The venue will include seating areas, a performance stage, observation deck and an outdoor movie screen.
Gillette Welcomes New Museum: In January 2016, Gillette welcomed the Frontier Auto Museum. The museum complex includes an antique and upcycled store, a car museum and an old-fashioned general store.
Sleeping Giant Zipline: Just outside of Cody, Sleeping Giant Ski Area debuted a new zipline experience in June 2016. This five-station dual-cable zipline and freefall platform provides 3,100 feet of side-by-side ziplining fun. Plus, it’s located just 6 miles from the east entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
22 Wyoming Destinations in the Path of Totality for Solar Eclipse 2017: More than 20 places—including Grand Teton National Park, Jackson, Dubois, Lander, Riverton, Fort Washakie, Casper, Wind River Canyon and Wheatland—are in the path of totality for this year’s solar eclipse. The eclipse will make its way over Wyoming on Monday, August 21.
New Climbing Guides in Lander: Located in the heart of the Wind River region, Wind River Climbing Guides opened in 2016 and offers full-day and half-day climbing trips, as well as rappelling and clinics.
Hole Bowl: The latest addition to Jackson, Hole Bowl is a boutique bowling alley that opened in July 2016. Its offerings include 10 bowling lanes, as well as an onsite restaurant, pool tables and bar.
Wyoming Ranch Named #2 Hotel & Resort in the World: The Lodge and Spa at Brush Creek Ranch was recently named #2 in the Reader’s Choice awards for top hotels and resorts by Conde Nast Traveler. The ranch is set on 30,000 private acres in the heart of the Platte River Valley in southcentral Wyoming.
Residence Inn by Marriott, Casper: Located conveniently near Casper Mountain, Beartrap Meadow, Three Crowns Golf Course and the Historic Trails Center, this all-suite property offers the comforts of home, as well as 460 square feet of event space.
Lodging Added at Devils Tower Golf Club, Hulett: The 18-hole golf course located 8 miles from Devils Tower—the country’s first national monument—recently added lodging to their offerings.
Springhill Suites by Marriott, Jackson: This spring, Jackson will welcome Springhill Suites by Marriott. This all-suite property will offer 1,500 square feet of meeting space, including three breakout rooms. In addition, the property is located next to Jackson Hole Center for the Arts.
Shoshone Rose Hotel, Lander: The most recent addition to the Shoshone Rose Casino, the Shoshone Rose Hotel opened in October 2016. Near Lander and with easy access to the Wind River Range, the hotel has 60 rooms, a heated swimming pool, hot tub, meeting room and a business center.
Lander Welcomes Boutique Hotel: Slated to open this summer, the Mill House is an 1888 flour mill that’s been renovated into a boutique property in downtown Lander, Wyoming with four unique units.
Fairfield Inn & Suites Rawlins, Rawlins: Located just off I-80, the brand-new Fairfield Inn & Suites boasts an indoor pool and hot tub, fitness center and meeting room.
Baymont Inn & Suites, Rock Springs: Previously the LaQuinta Inn, Timberline Hospitalities welcomed Baymont Inn & Suites, a 129-room property, to their lodging offerings. Property features include an outdoor pool, fitness center and complimentary breakfast.
Fairfield Inn & Suites, Sheridan: The newest property in Sheridan, Fairfield Inn & Suites offers smartly designed guest rooms, as well as a pool, fitness center and complimentary hot breakfast.
Canyon Lodge Project, Yellowstone National Park: As part of its contract with Yellowstone National Park, Xanterra Parks & Resort has completed construction on five new lodge buildings at Canyon Lodge. As part of this construction, more than 400 guest rooms—which include two-bedroom suites and two styles of lodge rooms—are now part of the lodging offerings. The Canyon Lodge & Cabins features more than 500 rooms and cabins.
