Hold hands Romantic — and unusual — activities abound in Wyoming in the wintertime. Bundle up under a blanket and enjoy a sleigh ride at the National Elk Refuge in Jackson, where you will see hundreds of the majestic animals up close and possibly even spot a bald eagle or two. Towns such as Saratoga, Afton and Jackson hold annual cutter races, during which participants in chariots are pulled along a quarter-mile track by a pair of horses. Yes, it sounds quirky, but watching the races with cup of hot chocolate is surprisingly romantic. And, ice skating, the quintessential winter activity for lovebirds, is available around the state. Pamper yourselves Just because you don’t have a big budget doesn’t mean you can’t find a little luxury. Historic bed and breakfasts and quaint inns are common throughout Wyoming, and you can book a homey room for much less than you might think. Plus, you’ll enjoy extras such as fireplaces, trails right out the back door, homemade meals and gracious, friendly hosts. Visit one of Wyomng’s numerous hot springs for an inexpensive but oh-so-soothing indulgence.
Applaud Performing arts might not be the first thing that Wyoming brings to mind, but don’t discount the state’s robust schedule of visiting and resident performances. You’ll be able to see excellent musicians and performers for a fraction of what it might cost elsewhere. Check out the cultural events calendar here.
